foo_skip (officially known as “Skip Track”) is a highly popular plugin (component) for the foobar2000 audio player. It allows users to automate the process of skipping specific songs—or even specific sections within a song—based on highly customizable rules, search queries, or audio metadata tags. Key Features
Query-Based Skipping: You can write logic rules to skip tracks automatically. By default, it automatically skips any track with a metadata RATING equal to 1.
Time-Based and Advanced Logic: It supports complex expressions to avoid songs based on your listening habits. For example, the query %rating% IS 1 OR %last_played% DURING LAST 8 HOURS skips tracks you dislike or have heard too recently.
Dynamic Playlist Fields: You can target specific listening situations using context fields like %playlist_name% or %playback_order% (e.g., only skipping specific audio files when you are using “Shuffle” mode).
Partial Track Skipping: Instead of skipping a whole file, you can skip over annoying sections like long spoken-word intros, skits, interludes, or dead space.
Audio Trimming Engine: By utilizing its Digital Signal Processing (DSP) component, you can permanently trim files when converting them to a different format. How to Use Partial Skipping
To cut or jump past a specific part of a song, you need to add a custom metadata tag to your audio file. Right-click a track in foobar2000 and select Properties. Create a new metadata tag field named exactly SKIP.
Fill in the value using one of the following time-code syntaxes: Syntax Example What it does Skip the beginning SKIP=-0:01:25 Automatically skips the first 85 seconds of the song. Skip the end SKIP=4:00-
Jumps straight to the next song once the playback hits the 4-minute mark. Skip a middle segment SKIP=0:02:00-0:02:30
Automatically jumps from the 2-minute mark straight to 2 minutes and 30 seconds. Installation & Configuration
